Happy New Year Everyone!
I’m super excited to start off 2012 but first I wanted to share a few more of my photos.
2011 ended with my amazing experience as a featured designer and paper artist for 2011 Obama White House Christmas decor. I designed the East Colonnade and Bookseller Rooms (or East Garden Room). It was such an honor and privilege to have this experience. I was brought into the project by the incredible & talented Gabrielle Martinez of Agency EA in Chicago. Here are some of my photos of the project as it progressed.
The beginnings of my East Colonnade paper frames…
Here’s how the East Colonnade turned out… The grand hallway featured {4} 4′ x 4′ paper lined wood frames hung in front of the beautiful windows facing the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.
Now for Booksellers… This was definitely the most fun & whimsical room in the Obama White House! I designed paper and felt covered trees to create a little mystical paper forest for the 4′ felt Bo being assembled by the White House Florist and her team. I made 11 trees in total ranging from 2′ to 7′ and two paper trees built on repurposed lampshades.
I worked with 11 of the most wonderful White House Christmas volunteers who worked nonstop to make my design ideas a reality. From hand wiring felt balls and paper holly leaves to hand cutting 150 felt ornaments for our live trees and embellishing our beautiful wreaths with hand cut felt poinsettias, my group of volunteers was AMAZING! Karen, Eileen, Karen, Nancy, Genevieve, Debbie, Ron, James, Ruthie, Jose & Pedro- you all made this an incredibly memorable & loving experience. Thank you for being my family for 5 days in the White House. I will never forget it!
